Dr. Kasper’s specialization in neuro-oncology allows him to effectively treat a wide range of tumors affecting the brain, spine, and pituitary gland, whether they are benign, malignant, or metastatic. He will collaborate closely with the prestigious Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital to provide comprehensive care in this critical area of medicine.
In addition to his focus on tumors, Dr. Kasper is dedicated to treating a variety of conditions impacting the brain and spinal cord. His expertise encompasses hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, trigeminal neuralgia, spinal stenosis, degenerative disk disease, traumatic brain injury, cavernomas, and intracranial hemorrhage, among others. Dr. Kasper is skilled in minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures, as well as in utilizing advanced techniques in radiosurgery. Notably, he has a unique focus on providing neurosurgical care for women during pregnancy, addressing a vital and often overlooked aspect of neurosurgery.
As part of his commitment to medical education, Dr. Kasper will also serve as teaching faculty at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, facilitated by St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center’s partnership with Boston University. Dr. Kasper’s illustrious career began with his Medical Degree from Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany, followed by a neurobiology doctorate (DPhil) from Oxford University. He completed his neurosurgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, further enhancing his expertise through a research fellowship in neuroanatomy and a clinical fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery.
Before joining St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Dr. Kasper held esteemed positions at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences in Ontario, Canada, where he served as Service Head of Neurosurgery and Director of the Brain Tumor Service. He has also contributed significantly to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston as an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Kasper is an active member of numerous neurosurgical professional societies across North America, Asia, and Europe. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. His dedication to research and academic work is underscored by his editorial roles for 13 scientific journals and reviews for 29 journals in neurology and neurosurgery, both domestic and international.
Dr. Kasper has earned numerous prestigious accolades throughout his career. He was recognized as a US Top Doc in 2022 and as a Castle Connolly Best Doctor in 2021. From 2012 to 2017, he was nominated annually for the Stoneman Harvard Teaching Award and received the Royal College Teaching Award in 2019. Since 2011, he has been listed in Marquis Who’s Who, highlighting his continued impact in his field.
