Sapio Sciences Reveals Free Flow Cytometry Tool on Its Website, read on to find out more

Today, Sapio Sciences spoke up about flow cytometry data analysis and how it’s a valuable tool used by many different laboratories to improve their research and development (R&D) efforts. Flow cytometry data analysis is built upon the principle of gating: gates and regions are placed around populations of cells with common characteristics (usually forward scatter, side scatter, and marker expression) in order to investigate and quantify populations of interest.

It is always a good idea to find out as much as possible about the cells and include the right controls whenever possible, e.g. determining an approximate size of the cells and if they are likely to change during an experiment. This can be especially useful if a lab is performing intracellular staining, as the fixation and permeabilization process can alter cell size and granularity, resulting in altered forward and side scatter profiles. If cells have a known marker, it can be useful to include this in an experiment staining, as it will help identify the cells of interest.

Sapio customers can use flow extensively in the Sapio Informatics Platform’s Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN). Customers have expressed the need for tools to assist in assessing flow data as extensive time and effort is spent on this task, which slows down their discovery efforts.

Sapio’s heritage is in machine learning, and it is applying its expertise in numerous areas, including flow cytometry data analytics. For example, Sapio performs automated gating of FCS data, reducing one of the more burdensome tasks of flow data analytics.

On its website, Sapio Sciences is offering users, free of charge, the ability to assess the quality of their flow data. Users can simply provide Sapio with up to three fcs files at a time, and the Sapio team will email the resulting HTML files in zipped format. It’s worth noting that Sapio does not retain the fcs files and only uses them to generate these results.
