The UAS Center at SBD and KIAST will collaborate by providing reciprocal access to physical locations in both countries for drone testing, demonstrations, and training.
SEOUL, KOREA, May 30, 2023 – The UAS Center at SBD signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST) on April 17, 2023.
KIAST is a federal government entity established under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of Korea. Responsible for the Korean government’s safety initiatives and policies relating to UAS, KIAST has eleven UAS test sites established throughout Korea.
With this Memorandum of Understanding in place, the UAS Center at SBD and KIAST will collaborate by providing reciprocal access to physical locations in both countries for drone testing, demonstrations, and training. This will enable US drone companies, through the UAS Center at SBD, to more quickly and efficiently enter the Korean market. The UAS Center at SBD will serve as a platform for Korean drone companies looking to set up operations in the United States. KIAST and the UAS Center at SBD also plan to cooperate on a variety of research and development projects related to drone safety.
“It was an honor to have the opportunity to formalize cooperation between KIAST and the UAS Center at SBD in Seoul,” stated Kimberly Benson, Administrator, UAS Center at SBD. “We look forward to cooperating with KIAST’s President Lee and his outstanding team to find new ways to enhance and support drone safety throughout our respective regions.”
